I bought a beautiful 2-tone burst (american delux V) several months ago. I play it late at night when my wife and daugther go to bed. Lately I have noticed that I have been talking to it. Usually, I just tell it goodnight and have been chalking it up to playing until about 2am. I am embrassed, but once I think I thanked it for being such a good friend. The rest of my life is pretty normal. I have friends, a great wife, etc. I dont do drugs or have a psychiatric history. I have never talked to an inanimate object before. Anyone else have any strange experiences like this? Also, I have started to GAS for a telecaster, but worry that the strat might get jealous.

I never actually talked to my guitar "seriously". I may sometimes joke with myself and say "you gotta go in your case now". But other than that, I don't talk with my guitar.

I eat chocolate pudding with my strat late at night when no ones around. We talk about other guitars and players behind their backs. Just like a couple of old ladies.

Funny, I think. If not, then, imho the problem is just if (a) your wife hears you talking to a guitar and thinks you're a kook (b) your strat begins to talk back. Like, if it's really talking back to you not just making great music. Then, you may be having a psychotic break, or you might want to check what mushrooms your wife served for dinner, or lastly the aliens may have figured out that you're on to them and begun to beam mind-reading rays into your cranium, in which case you need to make an aluminum foil hat to protect yourself and your guitar.

Sounds like some major bonding is going on. This could actually be a good thing. Don't be surprised if your playing gets better.

Try not to let people see you doing this, keep this a private thing, LOL.

Once in a while I'll say something to my guitars.

I have two strats Rosa and Caroline, and I talk to them all the time. Don't feel bad about the jeallousy issue either. I try to play them equallly so the other doesn't feel left out.

Only time I talk to my strat is when I somehow play the wrong chord or note. Sometimes is just messes up on me and I have to set it straight. I think its' screwing with me...

This is perfectly normal. I once had to break up a fight between Susie and Charlotte (my two strats). Susie is very jealous because she's not the youngest anymore.

I sometimes swear at my guitar for letting a string break or slipping out of a pull or hitting the wrong note. It's always the guitars fault for an instant. Then I realize it's my own damn fault and apologize to it.

My guitars teach me how to play. It's not exactly a conversation really, it's more like stratopathically. She lets me know where she needs to be touched and how.

I have always said in the end, it's the guitar that picks you and lets you make the sounds you make, still, I think my strats still jerk me around a bit...then again, so do my Teles...think I am in denial?
