Yeah, I'm pretty good with a soldering iron/needle, but my dad lost it when organizing the garage, so I had to use the big heavy gun. I just ran out and bought a need to make life easier.

Another trick is to drill a hole in my work station to put the volume shaft upside down into, and keep that sucker in place.

I've wondered why the pot makers don't put a solder lug on the case of the pots to simplify ground connections.
