Yes. The wear should tell a story, your story, of how it arrived in that condition. As noted, it's no fun talking about someone else's 'battle wounds'. They have to be yours to be interesting and personal.

Why not just sell a guitar with instructions on how to wear it down yourself? ;)

Cereal.
I remember reading an interview with Nuno Bettencourt. Washburn's made him so many signature guitars, new pickup configuations, styles, woods, necks. Everything. They keep trying to get him to play something other than his ratty old N4. He says its is main squeeze because of how broken in by HIS own fingers it is. Same concept applies here.

I tell you what, I'm seriously sick of all these "Road Worn: What do you think?" threads that have been popping up constantly for the last two months. Oh well.

.....and yet you still open each one! Hahahaha!

Seriously, I totally understand how people don't like them and are sick of hearing about 'em but this is a pretty bold line for them. They're still variations of a Strat but they are totally different from anything else they have put out in years and a direct descendant of the Custom Shop. They might just be a fad but I think it's pretty cool that can deliver a mass-produced version of their high-end stuff at a decent price.

Not to metion that these aren't new product ideas. Back when Fender came out with the relic and closet classic series a few years ago. I wasn't big on the idea then, and I'm not now. So what?

I love alot of people who say its how a guitar feels and plays that they care about and not what color it is or how it looks and then bash the road worn guitars. Simple as it is theres a market for reliced guitars and fender would be foolish not to capitalize on that market. There great guitars to play. If they put that neck on a body that hasn,t been releced I would buy that one too. If you don,t like it say I don,t like it and don,t buy it. Im done with this.

Yea, but those were Custom Shop guitars. Well out of the price range of most people. These have a similar look and feel at what..... 1/3 of the price? I think that alone makes them a pretty big deal.

Quite true. But all it comes down to is personal preference. I don't see the point, someone else does. I don't care, they don't care. Agree to disagree, etc.

I did not mean to imply your an poser? I don't know where you got that idea. For me it does not work. I spend a huge amount of time taking care of my 20 some guitars I'm retired I have nothing but time on my hands and this is my main hobby. Each has a personal relationship with and personality with me. I'm amazed at the difference one can be from the next same model etc. But to me a scratch is a stab in the heart. something a guy with 2 heart attacks does not need. If the road warrior does for you what mine do for me then more power to you. I have never tried one yet.
is there a distinctive way to tell these from a real relic. like do the serial numbers make them stand out. I ask because I some times take in guitars I intend to turn around being retired I need to find ways to support my habit. I clean them up reset everything polish them up and make them nice as I can, I'd hate to screw up a road warrior.

bostew, I was referring to another post here and from what I've read on different forums. These things are either a love or hate kinda thing.

I agree that a scratch can be like a stab in the heart. I have a few pristine guitars that I'd be upset about if anything happened to them. But these are different. I can really rip into one and not worry about scratching it. I know that seems weird, why buy a new guitar and not care about it, but this thing really makes me want to play. I can dig in and not worry. I have another Strat and I find I play differently with that one. More delicate but still with passion.

To everyone, I honestly hope I'm not coming across as defensive in my posts today because that is not the intention. Like I said before , these are a love/hate type of guitar. I happen to love mine but I can see how some people think it's cheating and fake. And I have no problem with that. I'm not trying to convince anyone.

About your question about telling them apart from the Relics. Price is one and the other is that since these are mass-produced, the wear is going to be similar on 'em. And since they're love/hate guitars, the ones who want one will buy 'em and the one who don't won't even bother looking.

Imho, go with a Highway One which is a mia guitar, and upgrade the pickups to custom shop. That's what I did and it's just an incredibly great guitar and many thanks to Mark at Wild West in Riverside for the excellent install and touching up the setup. Highway Ones relic fast and its yours.

Musican's Friend had a favorable review of the road worn series in their latest catalog (**** 1/2).
I did a quick test, and prefered the 60s strat over the 50s, but liked the 50s tele the best.
personally, I wont buy one, but I can see the advantage of owning a guitar that you are not afraid to ding or scratch.
They are quality instruments with a rustic appeal, but not my cup of tea.
