I am not into the forced relicking but I must say I tried a RW at my local dealer and it felt really good, more comfortable than a few other MIM I tried there. Although probably it had retained a better setup considering it has not been hung on the wall for so long.

here is my only beef with them...

if you got a players classic guitar...MIM same specs...its like 200-300 cheaper...

youre paying extra to have it look old??
i dont get that...

but here is what i think i can get down with...i bet that neck feels a lot better than a new Classic Player's neck...probably fast as hell!

but for that money get an American Standard...

or wait another month or two and get a AVRI '62 in Olympic White!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oooooh yeah!

Really? You'd like a free Strat? Hmmm, I'd venture a guess that just maybe everyone here would like one for free ...

Not a doubt there!

For that money? Can you still get a MIA Standard for under $1000? :?

The American Standard isn't my cup of tea, I liked the feel and tone of the Road Worns much better. I wish they weren't so beat up so you could do more of it yourself, but I'd buy the guitar just for the neck if I had the bucks. It's probably the most comfortable neck I've played yet.

I feel the same way I'm probably going to get a road worn or Baja tele just to have a tele that does not cost a fortune!

A tax rebate treat! :)

When i played one i found they are lacking. The price difference isi n no way carried over to quality or finish. If you look at a customshop relic against their NOS theres about a £500/$650 price difference. Deduct UK taxation from this and your getting nearer the £350/$500 mark. For that you get a individualy relic'd guitar not a generic productionline job. Why pay a similar surcharge for the roadworn and not get that attention to detail.

:cough:

Still waiting on how someone gets a free guitar...

Yeah I went to GC a week or so after the road worn came out... they're cool guitars, and I understand the desire for the relic look. $950 to me is a little high because I'm a stubborn DIY guy. Buy a MIM 60's classic player and a palm sander and away ya go.

Let me speak for those of us great unwashed who like the relic look. The emphasis here is the "look". The same way we all prefer different colored bodies, different fretboards, headstocks, pickups, tone pots, neck plates, manufacturing plants, manufacture year, hardware plating, tuners, nuts, knobs, pickguards, headstock logos, stain finish, tremolo spring count, input jacks, strap buttons, fret marker inlays, and so on.

We're obsessed with guitar heroes of the past. :!: Obsessed :!: Few of us have the $25K to go buy an early sixties strat that has stood the test of time. Some (not me) might have the $3K to buy a MIA 60's relic'd re-issue. More of us can save and pay $950 to have a simple pleasure.

Picture if you will, a room with only two strats (a nightmare for some) one is a down to the scratch, sticker, and etched initials below the trem springs reproduction of Stevie's #1; the other is the early 90's SRV sig series with the ingraved initials in the pickguard. Which one are you picking up and plugging in? Who wouldn't grab the relic repro just to see how faithful they were to the original? Who then wouldn't want to play it and see if it has that ever sought after sound? Now what if you could own one?

For $950 won't get you a new MIA but it would definitely get you a used '08 or '07. I prefer to adopt guitars that aren't wanted by others.

Good day.

Hey StratHeads-

I am with the majority here and personally would not spend the $$$ on a beat-up Guitar- The few (Very Very Few) battle scars I have on my strat have a story...they are my fault.

On the other hand- For Free....I would take it in a heart beat and show it off like a proud father-

The Freeze

I don,t know if im in the majority or not but I love my 50,s RW. The more I play it the more I like it. I don,t really care what they look like. I care more for how they play and mine feels and sound great. I payed just over 800 for mine and there was no other guitar for that money that I don,t already own the I liked more.

Just back from GC and I have to say..... omg I am stunned. The guitars look amazing! The attention to detail on them is beyond belief. I love the worn out finish, the old plastic and the hardware! I got to inspect a 50's sunburst and a 60's sunburst and if I had the money. There would be one more guitar in my household. Well done Fender!

Maybe they should bring back the closet classics in that price range.

You would think! An Un worn road worn model  minus the cost of the wearing out.
