Hello everyone, I just got a new American Dlx strat in the mail from guitarcenter and the bridge pickup isnt working. I took the pickgaurd off and did some resistance measurements on all the pickups. Everything seems to be fine except for the bridge pickup. Every pickup measures around 6.75K ohms, but i only get a reading on the bridge pickup when the S-1 switch is up and the selector is set between the bridge and middle, and when the S-1 is down and the selector is in the middle. I geuss this makes sense as the reading is probably picked up from the other pickups? So i geuss this means the pickup is broke and open? Or maybe something is wired wrong? All the soldering joints seem to be fine, so i'm hoping something is wired wrong because i dont want to have to send it away for them to repair it. I checked the wiring based on a diagram i found on Fenders site, everything seems to be fine but i'm gonna double check. I can do soldering work so if its something easy i can fix it. Is this a common problem? Also the master volume/S-1 knob will continuously turn past 1 and 10, the grip doesnt catch, and the bridge tone pot is different from the neck tone pot. It has a detent when put to 10, so it kinda sticks. Its not really a big deal, just kinda annoying, and i'm not sure why they would do that so i think it might be a mistake. Anyway, its a lot of frustration after a lot of anticipation, but aside from all that it sounds and plays great. Thanks for any help in advance, and keep on rockin.

Send it back. It's brand new and shouldn't be that way. You shouldn't have to mess with it.

True, but i also sholdnt have to wait another month for my guitar because someone on the assembly line was asleep on the job. I'm gonna call them and see if they can send me the correct parts, i can put them in myself if i have too, i dont mind doing that and kinda enjoy it, i just really want to avoid shipping it back.

The bridge tone pot is supposed to have a detent at 10. It takes all of the load of the potentiometer out of the signal for more treble output. I think you should get the guitar repaired under warranty just to be on the safe side.

That's the problem with mail order. I try to deal with local guy's who are happy to match anyone's price. I have 3 major and a handful of smaller guy's within 5 miles of my home.

Send it back. You may have already given them a reason to say you voided the warranty by messing with the electronics. Don't mess around with it any more. Just make them fix it.
