I've owned several Strats over the years and unless I modded them (a Candy Apple Red '57 Re-Issue I Gilmour-ized w/the EMG pre-wired pg and a Blackmore Custom Shop w/Lace Sensors) they hummed. Even the newer models. When I was on stage and stopped playing I just rolled off the volume knob, problem solved. And yes, those were all shielded as well.

Like others have said, start with your instrument cable. After all the work I've put into quieting my Strat's down, that by far was the easiest solution!

I get no noticeable hum from my American Deluxe with Noiseless pickups (and I can do nothing but praise the tonal output of this guitar). I use high-quality cords and a decent tube amp. No radio stations, no trucker's CB (yes, I've had this previously in other gear), no hum. Though, I can get some hard-to-squelch feedback with some of the overdriven distortion settings of my Line6 Pod XT Live (nothing to do with hum and noise).

The only Fender that I did shielding of the pickguard and other cavities was a 1980's YJM.
