Ceri, the other day, while surfing around, I stumbled on a web site selling new sets of those tuners. They were Ping. I don't know how long they have been around, but I could swear I've seen tuners like them "forever."

I guess that's possible as there have been Kluson type tuners forever.

My other guitar is a Strat.

Well, there they are on my old Squier. And JVF13 says the date on his neck heel is 1999, which is obviously the real date of his guitar. So that's already a fair span of years. And we saw them on that other neck (whatever we ended up believing that to be) on the thread you linked to earlier in this one.

My guess would be that those tuners are a budget model out of some third party supplier in the Far East somewhere and are getting used in vast quantities on all kinds of models at the bottom of the catalog. They're not great but they do the job. No need to update them for a long while I suppose.

Right now the Affinity Strat is probably near the bottom of the heap. I wonder what the current tuners are on that?

Though I must admit, I'd prefer to hone my knowledge in other areas...
