I've got a Clapton Signature 1988 with Fender Lace Pu's, shall I change to Fender Noiseless?

Only if you really want to.

if resale is a concern remember to save the original parts in a safe place. I have a tendency to change out whole pickguard assemblies, then store and label the original stuff (unless it is broken beyond repair-then i salvage what i can and bin the rest.)

I've had one with the Lace Sensors and one with the Noiseless. Neither model pickup would be my first choice. FWIW though, I preferred the Lace Sensors leaps and bounds over the Noiseless. YMMV.

I compare my signature woth my ' 62 Strat and the pu's are very high above the body, perhaps the Noiseless are lower.

Perhaps you need a set-up on your guitar. if the pickups are misaligned if really does affect tone.

this would be much cheaper than swapping out pickups, even if you don't so it yourself. and if after you still don't like the sound you have a properly set up Strat , as a better starting point if you do decide to switch em.

You'd be surprised how many 'problems' a good set up cures for a guitar. I have friends that swapped out tuners, and nuts cus the guitar wouldn't stay in tune, wanted to do refrets cus of buzz, etc. they still wouldn't stay in tune, still buzzed, but getting a proper set up removes all of that. I imagine properly, or improperly adjusting pickups, and their positions will open its own can of woe.

Everything I've heard is there is a huge difference in the Lace Pickups pre-1990. If you have a set of 88's you should really hang on to them.
