Has anybody put a graphite nut on their American Strat and what do you think about them?

At the risk of sounding all, "high brow" here, what is commonly referred to as a, "graphite" nut is in reality, a very strong polymer plastic nut, impregnated with teflon (the better ones, any way); real graphite wouldn't last very long.

I feel they do their job quite well and are very easy to work with. Their best attribute is the teflon which prevents the strings from getting hung up in their respective slots, premising the slots are cut correctly to begin with. They do alter the tone of the open notes and chords to a slight degree however. There are conflicting camps on this as to how. Some hear it as a mellowing of the open voice tone, some hear it as crisper. Some feel it is an improvement, some don't. And some like me, find it for the most part, irrelevant. This is especially since I don't predominantly play open stuff. Whenever I have to replace the nut on one of my Strats (which is far and between), I usually choose them. Otherwise, if there's nothing wrong with the OEM, I believe in the saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Again, this is merely IMO, YMMV.

My earvana is a teflon infused polymer jobbie. I heard a minimal difference in tone between it and the myriad of other nuts i tried over the years. It is if anythig smooth in action though.
