More seriously, he identified my 1920s Selmer guitar as such for me. Owe him for that...Cheers - C[/quote]

Ditto. Perhaps he'll find his way back here some day.

On a lighter note, Mike and I have a snowstorm on this side we'd like to offer to you and Nike as a survival exercise. :P Both our respective communities are seeing more than a foot. I stayed out of Manhattan today. Was not going to be found somewhere around midnight digging my car out of the railroad parking lot  .

Doc

Haha - we got an unaccustomed four or five inches a few weeks ago. The country ground to a halt! Schools closed, trains and buses stopped, airports closed. News anchor people kept happy for a week. The snow lasted a few days - the national angst much longer!

Cheers - C

My county is on a snow emergency, and the local airport's commercial air flight operations have been pretty much cancelled. The airport remains open for general aviation. NYC schools were closed and THAT is a 'rare' bird happening. The Long Island Railroad is in surprisingly good shape and putting on additional trains out of Manhattan for persons leaving earlier than expected. There have been a signficant number of traffic accidents, two known fatalities so far. Nothing here presently beyond the usual and customary for this kind of event. 1996's January Blizzard was more difficult.

See, that sounds altogether more grown up. Our four or five inches of snow (in the warmer south of the country) was the worst such for 18 years!! Hence our mass hysteria.

When you have a relentlessly moderate climate almost any kind of weather is news.

Though here's a strange factoid. Central England has the record for the highest number of tornados anywhere in the world. Seem utterly unbelievable, doesn't it? Twisters - in England? To be fair, they are very, very small - but plentiful nonetheless...

Cheers - C

Here we go again!! Simple matter of atmospheric mechanics. Get the right combination anywhere in the world and you wind up with vertical rotation. It's the supercell thunderstorms within which tornadoes are born which are common to the central US. We don't see that kind on the East Coast, for example, but we've had a few small, damaging storms of that kind in the NY area. No F-5's, fortunately.

Quite. There's a good reason The Wizard of Oz was set in Kansas, not Middle England.

BTW: Hop, your compliment on the other thread - "he also helps the little guy" - was really nice. I'd be delighted to be thought someone who doesn't talk down to newcomers/beginners. Thank you for that: appreciated!

Oh stop!

We'll have to go back to talking about maple v rosewood if you carry on like that!

When are you coming for a visit? Mrs Ceri and I have some good treats waiting for you and Mrs Hop. And I doubt Snowy would stay away! C'mon - the airlines are desperate for your business, after all...

Cheers - C

But wait a minute - what about a MIM maple fretboard vs a MIA rosewood one???

From an informational point of view, I cannot urge you strongly enough to obtain a copy of A.R.Duchossoir's book on the Fender Stratocaster, referencing fretboard materials. I cannot, in all fairness to the author, reproduce that paragraph herein.

With respect to the question, you're talking apples, oranges, and pears with respect to solid maple, maple board, and rosewood board, also with respect to their methods of manufacture. Point of origin may not figure into this mix. If my facts are correct, all necks originate in California and are shipped to Ensenada for assembly. There again, it would likely come doiwn to the source and quality of the wood.

As always, any further contributions with respect to accuracy are welcome.

Doc,
I appreciate your serious and informative response - but my post was as tongue in cheek as it is possible to get. Attempting to equate the two never ending arguments - rosewood/maple and mim/mia...
Oh well, I tried...

AS soon as I can talk her into it. We just had our latest grandson (2months old) and it'll take a while to pull grandma away to soon! :)

Maybe we can get Doc to fly us over for a day or two on his G5? 8)

Hmm. Let me try and guess: Duane? Dickie? Eric? Jeff?

Other's won't know what I'm talking about - but you do, don't you?

Anyway: CONGRATULATIONS on your new grandson!!!

Now. What instrument is he going to play in the Hopkins Big Band?

Cheers - C
