The first thing i am going to do is change the pick ups.

I was thinking of going with Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups.

Yes, I would change the pickups first. That would be a vast improvement on the sound. Good choice.

I would recommend changing the nut to a bone or graphtech or a high quality nut basically for better tunning stability
