i have never seen a 7 piece body. maybe befor 2006
but not 2006 to present MIM bodys are 3 to 4 piece alder
bodys thats what i have seen. like i said maybe befor 2006
they were that many pieces but not now.

well, i can't say when that changed or whether it's been the same since day one. But i did see some pics at another forum of body blanks stacked up at the mexico plant for standard bodies and they were all about 7 piece. It also may be that they use bodies with less pieces for sunburst bodies. But the RI's are definatly fewer pieces, as they are made in the USA as i said and are from the same stock as the MIA RI's. I not only read that several places, but i asked a fender parts guy about this and he confirmed it. i would assume the MIM made bodies for the standards are made with whatever they have at the moment and can be less pieces or more depending on what they have available at the moment. But with the USA/MIM-RI stuff that obviously cannot happen of no one would buy MIA fenders.

look at the date on those pics they are from 2003 befor 2006.

you can sit here and pick it apart like it dont have
this and it dont have that neither did the MIA strats
of the 50's/60's/70's/80's. the MIM strat is a very well
crafted guitar and since 2006 there much better.
i have a 2006 standard MIM strat the only modds
i did was change pickups and i tell you it blows my
2008 american standard right off the stage. the
MIM has better sustain/tone and i like the feel better
than the MIA. end of story!

I am very happy for you BECAUSE you have what makes you happy. All I'm saying is that there are models for everybody. I think it is a good thing that people have different taste and Fender is providing models for all to enjoy. BTW, I'm looking at a MIM or MIK tele for myself. So please don't take my post personally. I'm not arguing just glad of all the choices. I Have never put down anyone's guitar as I'm happy for them. Have a good day Alwaysstrat! :)
Exactly.Fender is a well run company.I am so glad there are so many good choices.I sometimes get tired of the whole MIM vs MIA thing. There are guitar snobs on both sides.I have never seen a company that was able to meet the needs of such a diverse group of people. That says alot.

very well put budglo. i find more and more pro players
are buying the fender MIM standard strat doing some modds
to it and makeing it there go to guitar price has nothing to do
with it some of these guy could own anything they want. they
choose the MIM strat because of the quality of the craftmanship
body and neck is there and all they have to do is a few modds
and they have there perfect strat and it still cost less than a custom
shop strat. i became a belever in the MIM strat back in 2006 when i
tore one down and saw just how well they are crafted.

You said it fhop they just make guitars to fit in different price ranges so that they are more availiable to the masses and they try to make them all quality peices. And alwaysstrat its like fhop said I am glad you are happy becasue thats what counts to each of us. I have also left the ceramic pickups in two of My MIM's and I consinder I got a lot of bang for the buck on My MIM's. Now that said I am also not blind to see when you get into the 1000.00 range there are other guitars around that can match or be better that are not made by Fender and warrent being looked at.

guys thank you all for making this thread so interesting, i gigged my MIA and my MIM over the last 2 nights and hand on heart the MIM was the outright better guitar, so i might actually get another MIM, i dont care whats on the headstock or what part of the world its made in, but i do believe that how my guitar feels and sounds is more important to me and the people i play to, the MIA is a little heavier and is a fine guitar, a bit more in your face than the MIM. i play the first half of the setlist with the MIM and the second half with the MIA, you can hear and feel the difference between the 2 guitars but if all strats were the same we wouldnt be here now would we? once again best wishes from me and my band Mid Life Crisis here in Ireland. slan agus slainte. :D :D

You just gotta judge instrument by instrument.
Ive found dogs and gems in both lines.
And its so subjective my 'dog' may be your 'gem' and vica versa.
I think youll get better results with frequent string changes proper set up an most of all PRACTICE rather then a deeper hole in your wallet.

Yes you are so informed and I have no clue. I should just make 9 out of 10 of My post say the quality of the MIM since 2006 is at par to the MiA and the Highway One is a future classic and is the best guitar there is today. Now I cant explain why but neither can you so that dont matter Ya that would make me non boring for sure and show how much knowledge I have. Thank's Highwayoneplayer I mean AJ or always------ Just having Fun
