Do the vintage style bridges have a different tone than the bridges of the 90's?

I would think they do although it may be to subtle for most people to hear. The bridge block is a different density and the saddles are different too. 8)

I assume you mean the 2 point american standard style bridge, and if so, yes. they sound sorta compressed in range and thinner than a vintage. i've replace vintage bridges with AM standards a few times and they always has a tone that seemed to chop off some of the lows and lost that full warmer tone for a more sterile thinner tone. Not to a huge degree thats nite and day, but after swapping and swapping back it became more obvious. when i first put a AM standard on in place of a vintage i wasn't exactly sure what it was that was different about the tone, i just knew it didn't sound as good. After a few times of doing this it became more obvious.

Now, fast forward several years to just a few weeks ago and for the heck of it i stuck a ESP 2 point bridge thats very close to a fender AM standard bridge on a maple board/basswood body strat. Why? Because remembering what it did to the tone of a strat i thought this guitar would actually BENEFIT because it was too in-articulate and sorta cloudy sounding and already had a ton of low end. so i figured the lows could take a bit of a loss and be ok and the tone could use the less warm tone these bridges seem to have. I was not only right in that it worked, but unlike the AM standard this ESP did not lose any low end that i could tell at least. but the guitar because more articulate and sounds better ! So i think the ESP is better. But in any case, in prefer a vintage trem on most strats, but this tells me if the strat is a bit too warm and indistinct, a 2 point may be good, and better if it's an ESP ! By the way, i should note that i'm talking distortion tones....the guitar was fine clean. But the clean seemed to remain very much the same thankfully.
