I just bought a 62 RW Strat. Its incredible. It my first Strat (I've been a tele man) and I love it. Anyone know if the finish on both the body and the neck are pre or post relic-ing?

Basically I want to know what kind of maintenance is needed here. I love this guitar and I want it to last.

Cheers

Is this an American Vintage '62 Strat, or a Custom Shop model?
If it's a Custom Shop job, and the finish looks new (no nicks or worn areas), AND the hardware is nice and shiny, it is New Old Stock (NOS). If the finish is lightly faded/checked, and the hardware is dull but not rusty, it is a Closet Classic. If the finish has nicks and worn-thru areas, and the hardware is faux rusty, it is a Relic.
Either Custom Shop or American Vintatge will have a nitro-cellulose finish that is thinner and breathes more than a poly finish. The maintenance is not a whole lot different than any other guitar, just be choosy about your polishing and cleaning materials. The Fender/Maguires line is excellent, as is the Dunlop 65 line. The rosewood fretboard could benefit from a light application of lemon oil once or twice a year. The Dunlop 65 line has an excellent applicator for just that purpose. And if it is a Relic, don't try to polish the rust off the hardware!
Enjoy! 8)
