The Nickel Method was taught to me by my friend Bill Lawrence ( www.billlawrence.com ).
It is used as a starting point and fine tuning the adjustments is up to each players personal tastes.

Ha! Great word, Ceri! I love overly complex words for our trivial pursuits. My favorite is vexillology (the study of flags). It reminds me of the lyric from Tom Lehrer's song "Smut":

"Who needs a hobby like tennis or philately?
I've got a hobby, rereading Lady Chatterley!"

BTW Since first reading Chet posting on the nickel method I genuinely did go and dig out a nickel (or two) and give it a go. It really is the way I do that adjustment nowadays. Unbeatable.
