Has anyone ever seen a Strat with a swirl finish like you see on certain bowling balls? Was this a factory finish? any info?

Hello Stratoholic,

Never saw one but from the
photo Twelvebar left, it looks neat.

Atolleter's linc say's $2000 is
asked by dealers for them. WOW.

Thanks for bringing this rare bird
to all of our attention.

Cheers.

Some interesting info on these Strats...
They were actually called "Marble" finishes. They were made only in '84, and available in red, blue or gold, and came with a matching t-shirt.
Only about 225 were made, thus the somewhat higher value.
They were actually not painted at the Fender factory, but the bare bodies were sent from Fullerton to a company in New York which applied the 'bowling ball' finish and sent them back to Fender.

I read that they did this finish by dipping a primerd body into a tank of water with the oil base color finishes floating on top. Then put a clear poly over top.
