Bigjay.
After that day used MIM's will sell for 1k+. I cant remember the british recession of the early 80's too much, was their a global downturn at the time? CBS decided to get out then.

Truth be told i cant see FMIC packing up completely they own far too many subsidiarys that sell well. Charvel, jackson, gretsch, are all big names that suffered during the 80's/90's but saw a resurgance in the last few years under FMIC's ownership. Truth be told i can see groovetubes making a return once the economy levels out a bit.

Atleast i hope so, i want a soul-o 30.

so does that mean once they purchase new materials at a cheaper price the price of guitars will drop again.

On the Fender finance issue, the sight of some of their brands up for sale would be a sure clue. Perhaps BigJay knows where to look to discover such a sale being offered.

Unfortunately, there could hardly be a worse time to try and off-load a subsidiary, even a highly desirable one. There are few more respectable brands in the motor trade than Saab. Yet it's parent comany, GM, is in the deepest mess and is trying to sell assets such as Saab to raise funds - just at the point nobody can afford to buy. There is a possibility that Saab may be bought by the Chinese; otherwise we may see a marque which in itself is very successful go under due to the log jam in finance.

Gives the lie to the idea that recessions merely clear out the dead wood. Not a good time...

Cheers - C

Is Fender a public company? Anyone know which exchange they're listed on?

Just out of curiousity, anyone know if G&L or MusicMan gear went up too?

I agree. I have one Strat. It's a 72 and the only one I want or need. I got it as a graduation present from my father. Prices are going up on everything. You have a choices, eat the increase, buy used, get a MIM or Squire, wait for a clearance sale, save a little longer or buy from another manufacturer. Reverand, Eastwood, Epiphone all make nice guitars too. No, It's not a Strat or maybe not even what you want, but the important thing is playing music. I have a lot of different guitars, not all Fender I might add, and use them as tools to make my music. The whining about prices is getting old.

I was in a non Fender guitar shop yesterday and the price of their Reverend guitars were up from $599.00 in Sept/08 to $749.00 (CDN$).
I think it'll probably happen everywhere.

Hey Stratheads-

Well at least Fender hasn't asked for bail out money  Fender is a good company and has been really good to us consumers. The price increase was bound to happen and it appears to be within reason.

To the guy who started this post - last time I checked, this was a forum for discussion - why not discuss this topic - its simple, if you see a thread that says something about the price increase, and you are tired of hearing about it, DONT CLICK ON IT!!! lol

Now, on to my point of even getting involved in this conversation

Last year, 2008 MIA Standard was around $1000

Present Day, 2009 - that guitar is gonna run ya close to $1300 - now, unless I am mistaken, did they improve that guitar any to justify a price increase?

That was my whole intent and purpose a few days ago by starting that thread - In my opinion, and remember, I have a nice collection of strats, and they are still my favorite guitar - and this is only my opinion, a MIA strat simply isnt worth $1300 - I dont care what was going on in 1955
