Well well, how interesting. I've learnt something there, thank you. I wonder what the current spec is for Mexican bridges with six screws? I suspect we'd both be glad to know for sure. I thought I'd heard of people swapping bridges between MIM and MIA bodies, but I can easily be wrong on that.

Anyone got a recent Mexican Strat and feel like quickly measuring the distance center to center of the outer of the six trem screws, please?

BTW: I also did some learning-from-my-mistakes on fitting bridges! It's one of those ticklish little subjects, isn't it...?

Good luck to you - and do show us how you get on, won't you? I was privately wondering about the wisdom of a sunburst on a stripped body, but you clearly know what you're at, so I'd love to see it if you do that one...

Cheers - C

I just measured two (2) Mexican Standard bodies that date to 2006. The spacing is the narrow one: about 52.5 mm. Not 56 mm.

A moment of silence for these two bodies: they gave up their necks for a bolder, braver experiment.

A double neck Strat....very interesting. If you don't mind, I have a couple of questions...

First, in the picture it looks like both necks are 6 strings. I'm used to seeing a double neck that's either 6 string and 12 string or 6 string and baritone, etc.. I don't mean any offence at all here and I'm not trying to mock you or anything but I am curious...if this is just 2 six string necks...err...what was the point?

Also, I'm curious about how you have the e-tronics wired. Looks like there's only the one blade switch and no apparent switch to "switch" from top to bottom. Does the one switch just control both sets of pickups wired in parallel or something?

Looks like a cool axe...wonderful show piece.

Peace,
Jim

ALRIGHT! Another refinishing project! Yes, please do keep us updated on your progress. I'd like to see how the sunburst comes out, too.

I would wonder the same things. I keep the Hardtail neck tuned to DGDGBE, that's G Tuning on the bottom strings and Standard Tuning on the top strings, so that I can be Keith Richards and Mick Taylor. I often capo it depending on the song.

Here's my description of the wiring:

I didn't want to add a lot of extra knobs and switches, so I gave the Hardtail neck a Volume and Master Tone control. The Tremolo neck has just a Volume control.

The pickup selector switch works for both sets of pickups (the switches are double throw, so can it control 2 electronically independent circuits). The output jack is stereo. I use a stereo cable (with a stereo TRS plug on one end and 2 mono plugs on the other end) and an ABY pedal to switch between necks and route the output to an amp. You can see the spot I made in the case for the ABY pedal.

Howdo...

It's 5.6 on my MIM Classic series 50's Strat.

I'll be wanting a decent bridge with steel block for an old Squier at some point soon and am now getting worried! the Wilkinson I had my eye on is 5.6! Hmmmm....

Ah, thank you: I thought I'd heard of people switching bridges between MIMs and MIAs.

Hmm, so the plot thickens. Do MIM bridges vary by model, or did the spec change at some date? Is it one of those "model upgrade" things that come along every so often?

Anyhow. The lesson is, always check that measurement, whatever guitar we're working on...

The other big indicator that this isn't a pre-80 is the fact that it's a four bolt neck pocket. From mid-71 to 1981, Fender's had 3 bolt necks. I've even seen some '82's as well, but most likely they were just using whatever parts were around to put some guitars out there. I kept in mind it could've been a 4 bolt conversion, but I didn't see any indication that it was.

Regardless, $25 is a great deal!
