Hey I changed my strings for the first time on my new baby today, and the back plate is just really inconvienient...I was wondering how many people like to take it off and leave it off.

I would just do it, except there is a wire back there on the trem plate i'm worried about ripping off. Also i've only ever owned a Les Paul and SG, which obv don't have the trem hole or wire.

Thanks!

A lot of people leave it off. I did now i dont.
You dont need to worry about the earth wire its unlikely it will catch its quite recessed.

The odds of you snagging that wire are not very good. If you want it off, then remove it. I leave mine off, although in regards to tone there is no advantage in doing so.

Hello Bynapkinart,

Firstly Welcome to the Forum.

When I take mine off I leave it in
the hardshell case so I don't loose it.

Cheers.

If the backplate for my Strat weren't slotted for string changes I would probably have packed it away. But as it is I keep it on. it only comes off for set ups, or if I want to adjust the springs (almost never aside from set up and cleaning time.)

I find absolutely no difference in tone with or without it.

I keep it off, I took it off temporarily and then it felt weird to me when I put it back on, so off it went. I didn't hear any change in the tone.
