Post subject: American standard 1991 -21 frets?

Hi,
I'm about to buy my 1st fender strat- it's second hand and I have doubts about it - Serial number states that it was produced in USA 1991-92 but it has 21 frets, I have never seen fender like that produced during these years. As far as I know the mexican strats have 21 frets, so now I'm not really sure is it oryginal american fender. I'll be grateful for any advice.

i think the screw holes to the Pickgaurd on the MiA do not match up to the pick gaurd holes on the MiM is one thing you can compare.

The headstock serial numb says its MiA but it only has 21 frets? hmmm
