Is there somewhere on the fender site that explains the different settings for the springs on the trem?

You can also adjust the number of springs you use, depending on how much pressure you want to use to move the trem.
Most people seem to like 3 springs, one in the middle and one on each end, but there's no hard/fast rules there either. Eric Johnson uses 5 springs, which is guaranteed to bend a normal tremolo bar after awhile.
I use 3 myself. On the block it is one in the middle and one on each end. On the claw I move the outside ones in 1 spot towards the middle, kinda like a W.
Works for me.

thanks guys. mine is in a W but the other way. maybe i will move them around and see what the difference is and see what i like the best.

If you want to float with .009's, use 2.
If you want to flush mount .009's use 3.
You can make your way up if you use heavier sets
