Just bought a 88 MIA Strat. Steel Blue. Rosewood. I like it a lot. The neck has a E4 serial number but it has a 88 date on the neck heel. I'm guessing the neck was made in 84 but installed in 88. The guitar also has the TBX. Not sure if I like the TBX yet.

Anyways, I like this guitar alot so far. I got it for $500. Anybody else have one of these?

The pic doesn't due it justice. It's got alot of smudges and I tool off the tone knob and the Iphone doesn't take the best pics. This color is really growing on me.

It's not likely that the neck was made in 1984. Old stock (from before the buyout in early 1985) would have been installed in late 1985 or 1986.

What is certain is that the E4 serial number decal was made in 1984 (or whenever Fender ordered them). That stock of E4 decals lasted a long time while demand and production ramped up following the declines and factory shutdown of the early '80s.
