That's why buying a signature model can be a risky descision. Those guitars are set up to that musician's specifications.

I never use the middle pick up in my strat. Or any combination for that matter. Just bridge and neck. I think thats the reason I'm all gung-ho on the Mustang-body-variants and Jazz/Jags.

Still don't own either.

it's the only one he uses so . . . .

Guitars with only a bridge humbucker were a big deal back in the "BIG HAIR" 80's.

Now that Tom Delong signed that deal with Epiphone, he has a new sig. model with them. Surprise surprise, it has one pick up too.

I DO own several, but mainly for a change of pace when i need it. I could own a single PU strat and have another that has all 3, but i don't see what that gets me. i mean, the last thing i want is to be in the middle of a tune to find i want to change tones. Or bother changing guitars between tunes because i *need* to. Yeah, if all you ever need is the bridge then i can see it. But otherwise i can't see the reason behind it. I don't see an advantage unless thats all you ever use. Then i can see doing it to have no switch to get moved by accident or to go bad, etc, tho thats a tiny advantage.

Yes but to change tones doing a song you just change channels or step on the pedals

theres not a pedal on earth that can replicate a strat bridge/middle quack tone from guitar with a single HB ! Nor a strat neck tone. Just ain't gonna happen. we'll see solid state amps leave tube amps in the dust long before that happens. besides, even if it were possible, who wants to had 2 or 3 extra pedals to replicate those tones instead of just having the pickups that will do it in thier guitars? I think the point here is that you are trying to offer me solutions where the only one there is to get what i'm talking about is a guitar with more pickups. And that you don't care about those tones that i do. Thats really what it comes down to. You don't need them so it's ok for you to have another guitar to get them if you so desire. I play most every kind of music so i absolutely need all those tones. Plus i find switching tones in mid song is a necessity for me because i thrive on going thru different tonal colors as i'm playing thru a tune. Look at SRV and guys like that. They switch tones constantly. But, like i said, you are you and i am me and thats really the answer here.

Here is the other guitar that I like that has just a Humbucker bridge and thats the G&L Rampage. WIki stuff below about it. And theres a good article about this one in the book called Guitar Heaven by Neville Marten Famous guitars to electrify the Word.
Rampage: Similar in design to the Stratocaster but with a more narrow waist and a more dramatic "tummy" relief. Rampages utilize a single humbucker designed by G&L and built by Schaller. The necks are Maple with an Ebony finger board. Most, if not all Rampages, use Kahler tremolo systems. Production colors include white, black, yellow and Rampage Red. Played by Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains.
