My first strat is a 2008 Am Std, the feel, look and sound is awesome, but I never tried one from previous years. How do they compare? Also what would be standout decades or years for the American Standards in terms of quality?

I have the Am Fat Strat HSS TSR S1 5-way switch. I love it it is the easiest playing guitar with a wide array of tones. Great in my opinion![/img]

I have an 08 Am Std, and I would have to say it is a much better playing and sounding instrument then even my 50th Anniversary Am Deluxe Ash Strat. The new Am Standards seem to be very high quality instruments all around. I am just not crazy about the tone of noiseless pickups, even the SCN's just don't cut it for me. They seem almost flat sounding, no life. I traded a Jeff Beck Signature Strat for my American Standard and couldn't be happier with the trade.

Great Guitars and the upgrade a few years ago just made it better. The high mass bridge block gave it better sustain and the rolled board gave the neck an even better feel. The frets feel good there big but not to big. Get a Deluxe with the S-1 switch and you even have more pick up configurations then others for more options.

The 08 MIA Standard is the best strat that I have ever owned. I had a 95 MIA, a slew of MIM and a MIK. Fender went back to a 50s style design (of course, with some modern upgrades), and improved the bridge and tuning pegs. Every professional review I have read pegs the new USA standards as the best guitars fender has made since before CBS. Here is a link to one:

Some guys don't know how to set a guitar up so they complain when it isn't right. If you are mechanically inclined you can handle it, if you aren't you either have to pay someone or complain.

Bingo!
A little know-how and patience can turn a wreck into a nice playing instrument. Alot of guys are just afraid to touch them, I think. Other than to play 'em that is...

I think everyone should completely dismantle and rebuild a Strat at least once to have a better feel for what it is they are playing.

Take your cheapest Strat and tear it down and build it back up.

Next have races with your friends or your favorite guitar tech to see who can accomplish this feat in the least amount of time! 8)

Everything in moderation. Now it gets ridiculous.
