No mate the American Deluxe is a pop in tremolo arm. The American Standard is a screw in tremolo arm.

And for what it's worth, I'd never dream of putting my guitar in it's case with the tremolo arm fitted. It's just lazy and potentially damaging.

Nikininja...There are no threads on this whammy bar. It doesn't thread in. I'm gonna try to post some pics. I'm gonna bring it to a service dealer and have them look at it.

BTW.. I would never put a guitar in it's case with a whammy on it.

:? :?

Ok it is possible that the guitar came with the wrong tremolo arm to fit into it's tremolo block.
Please upload some pictures to Photobucket or some other site and point us at them.

OK here is the picture of the end of the whammy bar. As you can see there are no threads on it. This type of end is typical for a pop in assembly. It's the same basic shape as my Prestige Ibanez's whammy bar that pops in. I hope the link works.

Here's a picture of my new 2012 Standard strat in Jade Pearl metallic.

FWIW, I decided to keep the bar off. Too much trouble to worry about losing the spring and I don't think I'll really use the bar anyway.

Who uses their bar?

i absolutely use my bar. no heavy dive bombs, but imho, you can't do surf rock without it 8)

What spring? No strat I've ever owned had spring in the hole where I screw in the whammy bar.

Yeah mate, that is the wrong trem bar. I'm sure if you go back to the shop, they'll replace/swap it.

Nikininja....Mystery Solved. It's the wrong bar. It's supposed to be a screw in just like you said. Thanks for your help. I just hope I didn't srew up the threads trying to push this bar in. The Rep said that my '91 Strat bar should fit it. So I'm gonna try to see if that one fits for now. He said he's sending out a new bar for me this week. WOOOHOOO...I love this guitar. One of the best soundiong guitars I have and the color is to die for.

Thanks to all of you for enlightening me. :D :D :D

Yes, my 1991 American Standard's whammy fit perfectly. If I had a brain I should have tried that when one of you suggested that it was a screw in. Any way the Tech said he's sending a new whammy out this week. Should get by next week some time. In the mean time I put my '91's whammy on it. Love this new American...the custom shop fat 50's are fantastic as well as the diamondback humbucker. I wouldn't change a thing on this guitar...except for a new pickguard. Gonna try a dark purple and a lighter violet purple to shake it up a little.

Thanks again :D :D :D

I would never put a guitar in it is case with the whammy in either. It would be stupid to put a guitar in it is case with a tremolo bar attached.

I was wondering the same thing. Not that I even installed my whammy bar.
