well i played a TON of strats to find this one (i have a list of 117 i tried, everything within 25 miles) and it was up against a couple of american standards. i guess its really a personal decision with how it feels, but i personally don't like the nitro necks, even though they look great, so i was kind of turned off of the americans. i love the satin finish on the neck, this one plays really smoothly.

the biggest thing for me though was that i didn't sacrifice sound or tone quality for it...this was honestly the best sounding strat i found for less than $1800, the electronics in this thing are mind boggling...

i dunno, its a personal thing, but i personally am very very pleased with the end product.

(small note, too...the feel of the body felt nicer to me as well...maybe because it is based on a very early pre-CBS body style? at least thats what ive heard)

I too am the proud owner of my first Fender Strat. My first electric guitar that I bought (back in 1985) was a Hondo Strat copy and now I have a new 2012 Fender Deluxe Player's Strat.

Let me start by saying that I really love the playability and tone of this guitar. It plays and sounds better than most American made Strats I have played over the past 27 years. I just wish that the Vintage Noiseless pups were a little hotter. Once I get it back from my luthier, I'll try playing it through my T-Rex Tonebug Booster. That should do the trick.

This guitar is also sexy as hell. I got the Sapphire Blue transparent finish with the rosewood fretboard. Now, I'm not a fan of gold hardware AT ALL. But the gold hardware on my Strat just looks "right". I'm not sure if it's the combination of the color of the guitar and pickguard or what. It just looks really nice.

There were some minor quality control and setup issues. Setup issues are expected with any new guitar. Hell, even my Gibson Les Paul Traditional Plus needed a setup when I bought it new. The quality control issues are, all of the screw holes for the screws holding on the pickguard are stripped and the pickguard itself is waffled. Luckily my luthier is a certified Fender warranty center, so I get to have everything fixed for free.

I really do love this guitar. It sounds amazing straight into my Orange Dark Terror and Orange PPC212 open back cab. The only effect I use is an EHX Holy Grail reverb (the Dark Teror does not have built-in reverb).

I took this pic with my iPhone:
