The strap button on my Highway One is very loose, I keep having to tighten it with a screw driver and even then it's still loose. I was wondering if I installed strap locks would it remedy this problem? I need them anyway. :)

Hi Elvis: straploks are always a good idea, but it sounds like the wood in that screw hole is chewed up.

The usual solution is to push a cocktail stick in there, with or without a dot of white glue to hold it in place. Trim it off flush to the surface of the hole then re-insert your screw. The surplus space is taken up by the wood of the cocktail stick and the screw thread can gain a proper grip again.

The deluxe version of the repair is to use three cocktail sticks with the pointy end of each towards the narrow bottom end of the screw hole. After you've trimmed them off flush you then insert your screw so that its point enters between the three sticks. Keeps that screw centered in the hole.

Good luck - C

Ceri is quite correct. I usually use round toothpicks and Elmer's Wood Glue.

The exact method i used on my P-Bass 7 years ago, and still tight as a drum!

I have to remember that trick!... My Strat is still pretty new, tho. My Tele on the other hand, is 38 years old. I guess I'm lucky, since the buttons are still tight.

That's the same method I use too when it happens.

I do recommend Strap locks to everyone, I have watched too many guitars hit the floor because the strap slips off. I like both Dunlop and Schaller locks.
