I'd say my favorite song to play right now, is Dogs by Pink Floyd. It's got a strong rythm and each lead piece is unique in it's own right. Not to mention that everybody who plays this song brings something unique to the table in terms of their own style.

Songs that I had fun learning as a beginner were Tears in Heaven by Clapton, and Stairway to Heaven by Led Zepplin. BOth are pretty hard songs to master, but easy songs to pick out note for note. I learned chords by listening to Nirvana's Nevermind.

Lately I have been in this rut where every time I pick up a guitar I play "Ten years gone" by Led Zeppelin. I LOVE that song, but I don't know why I do this.

I don't play much songs but I like to play a lot of different scales and occasionally try to make my own material.

My favorite song in general at the moment is Pink Floyd's High Hopes! Great song by one of the greatest bands.

Not really a beginner song, but it has to be my favorite to play too.

My favorite to play is Purple Haze and Wonderful Tonight by Clapton.

Wonderful Tonight by Clapton is a fantastic beginner song to play all the way through. Lots of good lessons for it on youtube.

Stairway. I like to go to guitar center and play it over, and over again on like 50 different guitars. That and smoke on the water. They love me at guitar center.

Some good beginner songs
Back in Black- ACDC
Sunshine Of Your Love- Cream
House of the Rising Sun- The Animals
Simple Man- Lynyrd Skynyrd

Some of my favorites to play lately are Under the bridge- RHCP, pretty easy, Little Wing by Hendrix, and maybe Island in the Sun by Weezer, another simple song.

Hope I could help. And dont ever get discouraged, if your having a tough time with something leave it for a day or two and then come back to it later, you might get it then. As a beginner this can be tough, especially if teaching yourself off the computer or whatever.

Its kind of a cheesey song, but i've enjoyed playing "dont fear the reaper" by BOC a lot lately. aside from the trill picking in the solo its pretty simple too.
