the cry baby would suit your needs best its warmer and doesn't have all the gain that the vox has i have both and the vox is more of a in your face high gain wah and the cry baby has more feel to it and is a bit smoother i use my cry baby 535 wah live cause it has 6 wah settings and and boost switch and the tone is better suited for my style (blues, funk, rock)

i own 3 vox wahs and 2 cry baby wahs
and a jimi hendrix signature wah and a
eddie van halen signature wah.
all 7 of these wahs are perfect for blues/hard rock/classis rock
and even metal you cant go wrong with anyone of these.

If you look at the Crybaby check out the SW95 but if you wont a nice one for that kind of money make sure you also check out the Budda Amplification Wah that thing is serious after hearing it I wish I had one and hope to soon mean while I use my Vox V847 its not as good as that Budda though.

My favorite is the Dunlop Wah. They're both good though, can't go wrong with either.

Crybaby and some Vox suck the tone from the lack of a true bypass (except those noted to have one).

That said, they have a different sound. Crybaby can get shrill and too whiny fast if you use too much toe on it. Not pretty. Vox is cool.

Buddah is nice. I've had them all. I only use a Morely Bad Horsie II now. Smaller range, but you get used to it. True bypass, also sound great with higher gain (very versatile), built tough, and you gotta love being able to just step on it to turn it on, and take your foot off to shut the wah off. I hate the toe switch thing.

Last year I tested them both face to face and it seamed like the Vox was more constructed towards low and medium gain settings while the Crybaby could handle everything with a less articulate expression.

If your playing "blazin' the haystack"-like gain settings, the crybaby, in my humble opinion, would probably suit you more. If your distortion is more delicate, as you stated, I'd recommend the Vox.

Hey Stratheads-

I have owned both and I prefer the Vox over the crybaby. I feel that the vox s more responsive and really brings out the strat sound through the effect. Mine was stolen and being low on cash I purchased the Crybaby. The crybaby felt cheap and clumsy. I would rock the pedal back and suddenly loose sound. The Crybaby eventually broke and I purchased a vox again right away. I play in a band that does classic rock and Blues covers as well as originals. I think the vox will work well for you.

Just my opinion
