I have a Fender Stratocaster which I got from new in 1999. Its made in the USA and has American Traditional on the headstock. I have never found anything on strats anywhere on this American Traditional model, not even on the Fender website! I think it was made in Corona.
Does anyone know what the 'American Traditional' name means and how many were made??
Thanks
Phill :?:

They were the "Highway One" model of their day: the lowest priced MIA Strat in the lineup.

I'll have to search my old Fender catalogs for more details ...

I didn't find an American Traditional model, but I don't have a 1999 catalog, unfortunately.

I did find the Traditional Stratocaster listed in the 1997 Fender Frontline magazines/catalogs. These were Mexican and the lowest price model at that, below the MIM Standard Stratocaster, I believe. The catalogs say

Quote:
"Traditional Stratocaster guitars are affordable, fine quality versions of Fender's Standard models. Classic three single coil version, left-handed model, and bridge postion humbucker Fat Strat models are available in this series. Features: Poplar body, three-ply guards."

The model numbers were 013-3600, 013-3602, 013-3700, and 013-3620.
The pictures are too small to read what's on the headstock.

Thanks Orvilleowner. I vant send a pic of the headstck because I have not got one that is publically available!
It is definately a USA strat and I got this on 29/11/2009 from Music Warehouse Colchester England. I heard that Fender only made 3000 to get rid of spare parts.

I wasn't saying your "American Traditional" wasn't made in the USA.

I was just giving the information I found on the MIM "Traditional" models because I didn't have any information on the "American Traditional" models.

Yours says "American Traditional" on the headstock in the position that the "Contour Body" decal is usually found. I don't think those models were made very long.
