I actually picked up that moniker about 30 years ago when I "renovated" my first guitar, a '72 hardtail Strat, by putting a humbucker in it and making certain, umm, 'cosmetic' changes. When the owner of the local music store saw it he asked, "What is that thing, some kinda Strato-bastard?" The name stuck with me almost immediately.
It is also the model name of one of the guitars that I build myself.
That and, of course, the Telebastard. And no, I haven't built a Jazzbastard....yet.
