I was thinking about chanding out the neck on my son's strat. I was going to buy a MIM neck.

Will all the necks fit the squier or do I need to stay away from any certain model?

Hi aeliaz1: that's a tricky question. Any Fender neck should fit into the neck pocket on the body, but whether the screw holes will be in exactly the same position or not is a moot point.

Fender make certain things such as the bridge and pickguard to subtly but distinctly different measurements on Squiers, precisely so that it is not easy to upgrade a cheap guitar into a better one. They want you to go out and buy a more expensive Fender branded Strat instead.

Whether that goes for the neck screws I can't say for certain. I have put new necks on Squier bodies but I went the route of buying new Fender-licensed necks from the likes of WD Music (.com). Those come with the screw holes undrilled, so you make them yourself in exactly the right position to fit those on the body.

Another way to go...

Cheers - C

Yeah, I would try to get a used MIM. A step up from the squier (depending on what model it is)

I am of the opinion that the neck is about the best part of a Squier.

The tuners, the nut, and the fret job might not be so good, but that hunk of maple is about the only thing worth keeping! IMO.

Save up to buy a whole MIM.
