I just picked up a MIM Stratocaster deluxe on Ebay with Seymour Duncan pickups instead of the standard ones. I went to look them up on the Seymour Duncan site and couldn't find them in the Strat section and eventually found them in the Tele section. The strat i bought only had one tone and one volume knob with the third one missing. If these are Tele pickups then it would make sense to me as most Telecasters only have one volume and one tone knob. The thing is that there are three pickups in the standard strat formation. When i use the five way selector, positions three, four and five sound the same. Does this mean that one of the pickups isn't hooked up? Also are these Humbuckers because having three Humbuckers on a strat would be cool.

The pickups are Hot Rails™ for Tele STHR-1b/STHR-1n.

I'd certainly be interested to see inside that guitar. Tele bridge pickups dont usually fit strats without a good bit of wood removed. It could be swimmingpool routed but the scratchplate would need altering, to accomodate the wider pickups. It certainly sounds like something is amiss with the wiring too. The tone pots are wired to the selector switch theres no reason that the 2nd tone pot shouldnt be there and fully working.
Any fear of some pics. Inside and out would be nice too.

I'll post some pics tonight. To be honest, I'm not hugely concerned as it sounds amazing and especially in the 1st selector setting. there is no buzz whatsoever. The Guitar itself is 100% straight with neck and body. I'm just puzzled as to why the previous owner chose these pickups over the ones that would have been on it. The Guitar cost me €300 on eBay with postage from california included so considering they start at €715 here in Dublin, I'm pretty pleased. The Guitar body is black with a white mother of pearl effect scratchplate and a nice maple neck. It was made circa 2000-2001.

Considering that I'm coming up from a Squier Bullet Strat, it's a huge improvement!

The wiring needs tidying up, it looks like it could of been tele wired. Aside from that its a lovely guitar. If you want to keep the tele sounds and add all 3 pickups on at the same time as well as all the regular strat sounds, follow this diagram.

Its a easy rewire just requires a bit of patience. I strongly recommend it and have it on my charvel strat.
Sweet axe mate.

Thanks very much! I really appreciate the help and feedback. This is my first true Stratocaster after a lot of Squiers.

This forum truly rocks!
