That's a tough one to answer mate. All depends what kind of blues sound you are after. I was watching the "Crossroads" guitar festival DVDs over the weekend and was watching the likes of Clapton, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, Jimmy Vaughan etc and they ALL seemed to have their pickup selectors in different positions and of course they all sounded different.

The best thing is to just play around with them (and your amp settings) and work out what sounds good to you.

The Blues comes from the SOUL man. 8)

Cheers.

Personally I like the neck pickup, with the tone turned down about a quarter of the way. Nice smooth sound, not too shrill. I also like the middle pickup, and I switch around a lot to find what I like.

I really like the neck+middle pickup setting. It sounds very warm and bluesy to me. Plus, it depends on the kind of amp you have.

Yep.... same for me. :) Neck+middle through my 410 sounds great. But like mhainz said.... just play around with your own settings and sounds until you find something you like. Then have fun with it! :D

The plain truth is, you'll know it when you hear it.

Depending on the amplifier I'm using, I like the neck pickup usually, and sometimes I will use the middle pickup in one of my Strats. In my X-1 Strat, I'll use the Neck and Bridge pickup together for a haunting blues tone, nothing else sounds like it.

I set my amp to clean, bass on 9 o'clock, treble on 3 o'clock. Full gain. Then I just switch to the neck pickup in my MiM Std. Strat (stock pickups). I'd have to say, it really nails that blues/SRV tone! :)
