The Rosewood is supposed to give more mids and be slightly better suited to Rock , the maple is a bit brighter sounding .

I would personally go with what u prefer the look of , when your talking about sound your Amp , Pickups and fingers are also major factors that I would argue effect the tone more so.

It is said that the Maple is a brighter sounding wood on a fret board just as Ronnie said. I own both types on my YJM’s and have to truly say that the difference is so minimal I don’t really notice a difference at all.. maybe only at the cleanest settings on low to mid volumes. Of course that aint saying much as my last 20 years have either been spent in front of wailing Marshall stacks, or at my day job on an airfield around Jet engines. In either case I am sure I don’t pick up the tones in overall sound I did when I was 20. Since the difference at least to me is so minimal I have always preferred maple boards. To me they just seem a bit slicker to the touch and somehow seem to me a faster playing rig. Rose wood is not a hard as ebony or maple and never seems to be finished quite as smooth. That being the case I don’t prefer it for playing bends slides and the such. That being said means absolutely nothing on the YJM scalloped neck ( be it Maple or Rosewood). On the scalloped fret board your fingers never touch the wood. That means the finish you come home with is what really looks better to your eye…I myself could not choose so I have both…..I have to say though, to my eye the rosewood looks sooo much better against the antique white finish of the guitar…old habits die hard though and I have to admit I spend much more time with my Maple model…..I believe you will be happy with any model of the YJM you choose as it is a outstanding instrument…I know I probably did not answer your question, but the bottom line is that it is what you like in the end…..play both see which one you like better for playability and sound; then go with it………Happy shopping and keep jamming… :D

Yes, considering that you never actually touch the fretboard I would find it very hard to believe that there is a noticeable difference in tone.

yeah, i would purely buy it based on looks. it probly wont matter much after the larger tonal devices do their part (ie. amps, effects, ect)

I would choose the rosewood mainly because I think rosewood fretboard necks feel more solid :)

The rosewood against the antique white looks better. I'm glad I chose the RW versus the maple fingerboard.
