I read on another thread that only custom shop guitars get the certificate :)

Only Custom Shop guitars get a COA. It is that way for all guitar companies.

What kind of certificate is it? I got a "Certificate of authenticity" with my MiM (found it in the gigbag almost a year after buying it). I put it somewhere, let me dig it up and get a pic of it...

Yes. Find that certificate. Why would any MIM need certification?

No American made production guitars ever had Certificates of Authenticity. Not in 1954, and not now. Custom Shop issues the certificates because they are mostly handmade, and are certified greater care in craftsmanship and detail than production guitars.

For example, I have an original 1958, and it has no certificate and never had one right out of the facotry at Fullerton back when. I have a new Masterbuilt Strat as well, and not only does it have the COA, but the builder has his signature on the back of the headstock inside the little Custom Shop V.

To get a COA, you have to buy a special guitar. Just because it's MIA, and hanging up on the wall at Guitar Center, doesn't qualify it as being special.

Hopefully that makes sense.
