Well minimum of 3 hours a day. And then after 1 year and 4 months of having my Highway One, it needs a fret crowning. Haha ridiculous or what?

The more you play it the more you will wear down the frets. They're not made out of diamond.

Yeah I know, it's just disappointing that I have to shell out the money, I knew it was inevitable but I was trying to put it in the back of my mind.

I hear ya!, I have a highway one also and I can see my frets going down a little tyny bit so far since this is my fav guitar I have already thought this out ... when my frets are really used I will get the neck re fretted with stainless steel frets just like the EVH guitar :D

Hello TheVelvetElvis,

That works out to about
500 hours of playing I wish
I had that kind of tenacity.

I find when I don't drive my car
I use less gasoline.

Cheers.

How true is using nickel coated strings for decreasing wear on the nickel alloy frets? This is my reason to use Fender bullets on my Fenders.

That's why it's always a good idea to have multiple Strats around the house. It evens out the wear. :)

It stands to reason that strings made of softer metals are going to wear frets less quickly. A light touch when fretting is said to help too. My MIM just got a crowning after 14 years, its had a good deal of playtime.

Thanks guys. I have been using DR Tightfits 11-50. I'm not sure what to switch to, I really love these strings though. A buddy of mine is selling an MIM strat for $200 so I might just snag that to practice on.
