 Hi, I'm new at this but need help. I am trying to determine the year from the serial number on my sons fender. I've read so much about this that I am confused. The neck is stamped with made in USA but the serial number is E4548...
I also have a question about reissue...what is that? The front has 3 knobs, if that means anything. what about a sale price?

G'Day and welcome.

Goto "support" up at the top of the page and check out the Product Dating thingy. It lists the serial number series and the approximate dates of manufacture. I'd say by the number you have it'd be a US made Strat (3 knobs on the front?) made between '84 and '87.

If you want to know more about it, post up some pics and I'm sure there's plenty of people here who can give you more info.

A re-issue is basically a later reproduction of an earlier spec model. eg a '57 re-issue would be a new guitar made to similar specs to those made in 1957. ie similar neck shape, pickup spec, colours etc.

Thanks, any idea about a selling price. I've seen up to $2,500.

That's a much harder question. It depends on the condition and the actual model / features. Then your best bet is to check on ebay for a near identical guitar and see what they sell for. At the end of the day a guitar's really just worth what someone is prepared to pay for it.

Like I said if you post up a couple of pics of it, someone else here is bound to give you some more info.

Cheers.

go here:
http://www.guitardaterproject.org/fender.aspx

And put in your serial number and select american, it will give you the year of manufacture... then if you upload some pictures here we can see what model it is and you can have an idea about the price....... :)

Hi what2, welcome to the Forum.

mhainz is giving good advice. There's little to be said for sure without some nice clear pictures, front and back, detail of the headstock and so forth - the more you show us the better feedback you'll get.

Two and half grand for a mid-eighties Strat sounds steep, but we won't know till we see it.

Cheers - C
