Roger was the founding guitarist of the rock super group, Heart. Some of his most notable licks came from Barracuda and Magic Man, as well as many other great songs throughout the mid to late 70's.

I was just discussing this with him today when I realized Howard Leese had his own signature Barracuda foot switch.

Roger stills plays with as much intensity and dedication as he did 40 years ago, so I thought it would be cool to ask this question.

Currently, he is using one of 3 Jeff Beck custom shop Strats, 2 of which are sea foam green, and the other is olympic white.

Then his signature strat would be a Fender Jeff Beck Stratocaster, Roger Fisher Stratocaster. I can see this whole "signature" starting to sound a little silly. Just my opinion.

Not even close... I have heard a couple of his own custom guitars, and they are amazing. The Jeff Beck custom shop is just his preferred guitar right now..

I'd rather not bad-mouth a guy who is both remembered and is still playing.
I'm happy for him, I hope he never quits playing.

So we should have a signature model based on guitars even he doesn't like best.

Sorry, there are a lot of great players that don't really warrant a signature model. There's already too many of them. Signature models should be something very special. SRV's strat Clapton's Blackie and guitars like that are really iconic.

Good as he may be (I love the old Heart stuff) I just don't think that he is deserving of his own Strat.

There are people who play Strats and there are 'Strat players'. The latter are the guys who's signature sounds are instantly recognizable as being a Strat. I would love to be able replace Dave Murray and Billy Corgan with real Strat guys like John Frusciante and Mike McCready. Dave and Billy may be fine players but you can get those tones with just about anything.

These are just my personal opinions as always and should only be taken as such. No offense to the OP or to Roger Fisher is intended here in -any- way.

The obvious politics involved with a signature series anything aside, personally I tend to think that the folks that "deserve" to have a signature series instrument (Fender/Strat or otherwise) are the folks that in some way have made a notable contribution or have a notable connection with that instrument. Eric Clapton for example...even though Clapton has owned, played and recorded on many guitars (including acoustics) when one thinks "Clapton" one thinks "Strat". SRV, Hendrix, Buddy Guy and even Yngwie...all very notable Strat players who are easily identified with the instrument. Even though I am personally a very long time fan of Heart and particularly of their earlier material, I never knew Mr. Fisher was a "Strat" player until I read it here. In addition as a fan and as a guitar player who has covered many Heart tunes over the years, despite Mr. Fisher's obvious contributions, when I think of "Heart" (at least in regards to guitar) I don't think "Roger Fisher", I think Howard Leese and Nancy Wilson.

So with no disrespect to Mr. Fisher, no...I really don't think there should be a Roger Fisher Sig Series...Strat or otherwise. I'm sure he is still a great guitarist and his place in music history is well warranted but he's just not that notable. There are a great many incredible guitar players out there, some who have never received any notoriety at all and very simply not all of them deserve to have a signature series (guitar or otherwise).

Again, just my opinion,
Jim

Maybe Fender should track down every single person who has ever had a strat and make replica signature versions of every single strat to fly off the shelves!!!

That way when they copy mine you can all buy one, and send money to me. You can all point at the back of the neck, behind the 12th fret, and say that ding is a replica of the one that Canadian guy got loaded and dropped his guitar off stage!

Yea, I gotta say there does seem to be some "signature envy" going on around here lately. This is purely a subjective opinion on my part, but I think that maybe part of it is that we all love to see our "heroes" recognized in some way or other. Also, as musicians, many of us have a very personal relationship with our instruments (all you folks with really dirty minds can shut up! LOL!) and having a "so-n-so" sig series brings us a little closer to our idols.

The bit that a lot of folks seem to miss is that the primary point of having a signature series instrument is to sell more of that instrument, usually at a premium price. Personally I think they should have a "James T. Walczak Signature Series Strat" (that's me in case you were wondering) but very simply they wouldn't sell many of those at all. Come to think of it...hell...I probably wouldn't even buy one myself! LOL!!! Very simply, while there are a lot of great players out there and many who deserve recognition, the simple question for the folks at Fender (or Gibson or anywhere else) is "Will it sell?" and if the answer is no then it's just potatoes and pot roast for the rest of us.

Of course...if someone is actually interested in a James T. Walczak Signature Series Strat, please let me know. Right now they're about $2200 and you have to pre-order about 6 months in advance. I have to say the Lake Placid Blue model -is- very nice :D.
