Hey guys-

I was just wasting some time on ebay and I cam across this 1985 '62 Reissue.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Fender-Stratocaster ... 1|294%3A50

I whole-heatedly believe that these instruments should appreciate in value so it's good to see it actually happening! An excellent alternative to Custom Shop Relics. Hopefully mine will be worth something in a few years!

Seems the early 62 RI made at the fullerton plant have gone way up in value. I just hope the newer ones do. My 2006 is a great gutiar.

Im not 100% on the full story, but around that time when re-issues first saw light, there wasnt a lot of guitars being made at the fender plant in fullerton as most were coming from Japan- someone please correct me, but I think re-issue series where the only models to have been made for a short period at Fullerton- not a great amount where made per day and these models are prized for their quality and attention to detail.. they are desirable to collectors as such and are hard to come by..

Hey CW,
I cruise EBAY daily for Strats. Both of those 62 reissues are overpriced. In excellent condition they're valued around $1400.00 to $1600.00 US.

EBAY is a minefield and you really need to be careful. It is better to take your guitar to a reputable dealer every 5 years or so and get an appraisal from them if you want to put insurance on it or just have some documentation as to it's value.

CW ,I certainly hope modern reissues start rising in value.

Jay those guitars are fine mate. The dating and neck hole are all ok for that year.
Personaly, I'd snap em up like a buttery kipper  especialy that burst.

Actually those dated back in 82-84 are much sought after and considered to be some of the finest made by the Fullerton plant before CBS bought Fender over in 85...

The black one clearly has been drilled and the serials numbers on both appear, to me anyway, to be from 2000....V-00....[/quote]
Those early 80's serial numbers in general and vintage reissue in particular are not strictly subject to fenders cuurent seial/dating methods.
The extra hole was quite common then too. It was more a matter of choice of how to hang or jig the guitars that changed from builder to builder or between finishers.

this is taken from this sites serial no dater
Quote:
EI + 5 digits
E2 + 5 digits
E3 + 5 digits
V + 4, 5 or 6 digits (U.S. Vintage Series except '52 Telecaster) 1982
(For U.S. Vintage Series, check neck date for specific year)
E2 + 5 digits
E3 + 5 digits
V + 4, 5 or 6 digits (U.S. Vintage Series except '52 Telecaster) 1983
(For U.S. Vintage Series, check neck date for specific year)
E3 + 5 digits
E4 + 5 digits
V + 4, 5 or 6 digits (U.S. Vintage Series except '52 Telecaster) 1984
(For U.S. Vintage Series, check neck date for specific year)

extra neck hole thing is only my theory but is consistent with older guitars. You should see the nail holes in orvilleowners guitars.

Wow. $2500 for a used CBS strat. You would have to be on crack to buy that thing. On top of it, the routing is all screwed up. Easy pass for this guy. Re-issue or not, I would rather drop $1500 on a new American 57 reissue, and have a grand left to blow on whiskey and whores.

By the way...the Serial number on the second one seems off to me.

Unless Im wrong, the V-series "Vintage" reissues were built after 2000.

Hi Big Jay,

Actually The "V" serial numbers appeared on the first Re-issue guitars in 1982. I have a 57' RI that was stolen from me in 1998, and returned to me last month. It's SN# is:V005309.

I just posted pics of it in my introduction thread.
