I recently purchased a replacement pickguard (Blue Moto) for a Fender strat on ebay. The seller says it is unopened and it is Fender packaging. I went to swap the pickguard last night and not only do the 11 holes not match up, but the pickup holes arern't big enough.

Does anyone know if the Highway One guitar uses a non-standard pickguard??

Thanks

I don't no why but if you look at the Fender page and the Black Moto replacment pickguards it says.

A 11-Hole replacment pickguard for American, American Standard, Hot Rod and Deluxe series Stratocaster Guitars (U.S.A.) and Standard, Deluxe and 70's Guitars (Mexico)

Theres no mention that they will fit the Highway Ones though. Don't no why maybe the originals are coming from another outside supplier or some other reason that only Fender knows

I won't go into the merits of which pickguard should fit which body as that has already been addressed but there is one thing in this post that no one else has commented on...the holes for the pickups. Regardless of whether it's a Highway 1, an Am STd, an MIM, or even a Squire, single coils pickups for a Strat are all roughly the same size. Yea, my Duncan rails were a bit tight, but they still fit the pickguard. If the holes for the pickups are too small for the pickups, something is seriously amiss here. Unless the guitar has some -seriously- over-sized pickups, then my guess is either the pickguard itself was mis-cut by the manufacturer (which can happen) or it was swapped out in the package as others have suggested.

If it were me, I would take the guitar to a regular music store and check to see that a regular Fender pickguard does fit (just to make sure it's not something funky with the instrument) and then I would contact the seller, explain the problem and ask for a replacement or a refund. If you do ask for a replacement, make sure to ask the seller to check it against one that's already on a guitar just to make sure it's correct...if it was mis-cut and he provides you with another from the same lot, you could have the same problem all over again.

Just my $.02,
Jim

I know this is an old discussion group, but when you type in a search for "Highway One pickguards" any search engine lists this forum. With that said I wished I would have seen the forum much sooner. Maybe I can help someone in the future who comes into the forum looking for the same answer. I own a 2007 Fender Highway One Stratocaster and the Fender replacement pickguards do fit. I added a Fender white pearl pickguard to my blonde Hwy1 and it fit perfectly, no problems.

Now with my 2008 Fender Highway One Telecaster the 8 hole Fender replacements will fit, but they also have the two holes for the pickup adjustment. The Hwy1 Tele does not have the holes for pickup adjustment. So for those who may have a Hwy 1 Tele who want to change pickguards, be aware when ordering online or make sure to inspect the pickguard in the store.

I did replace the Hwy1 Tele's pickguard with a 5 hole pickguard. I drilled 3 extra holes and it fit fine. Why use the 5 hole pickguard? The 5 holes don't have the holes for the pickup adjustment. It is only 1-ply but it worked for what I wanted. I would like to find a black pearl to put on it, because I think it would look well with the Midnight Wine color. If someone has a link or info on a 8 hole 3-ply black pearl Tele pickguard with no pickup adjustment holes please let me know.

Following up on my previous post. Here are pics of my guitars with their different pickguards.
The 2007 Highway One Stratocaster with Fender white pearl pickguard.

The 2008 Highway One Telecaster with the modified Fender white 1-ply pickguard. As I mentioned before it was a 5-hole and I drilled and beveled the 3 extra holes for to fit my my 8 holes on the Telecaster. Notice no holes to adjust the neck pickup.

The Fender Highway one takes all modern strat pickguards.
I used a Lone Star pearl white and tortise on mine.
I got them here super cheap and excellent quality

With matching backplates here

Thanks Donnie it looks like a good site to find pickguards. Mine for the 2008 Telecaster would be under the "62 Tele." The "62 Tele" category has all eight holes drilled and like 2008 Hwy1 no neck pickup adjustment holes. Unfortunately they did not have the black or dark pearl. Who knows I may try another look.
Checked out Texas Barbecue. Interesting tune. [-:

I had bought the Fender set of aged white pearl lone star pickguard and back plate. It was $50 shipped off ebay. i got the same set from eyeparts for $20 shipped. i think they are the exact same parts also.
