I just bought an American Strat about 2 weeks ago and I already have my first ding on the headstock. It bothered me so much I could barely sleep. LOL.....Oh well it's bound to happen over the years.
Anybody have dings on there headstocks or anywhere on there Strat. Any cool stories??
This is my first Strat so I'm very cautious of it, but I heard Strats can take a beating pretty well. Some of the best Strats are the worst looking beat up ones.

Pics or it didn't happen!!
My guitar has a few little dings. I have an Ibanez that fell out of a storage box on a moving car.

I made it through 14 years of Strat ownership without so much as a scratch (I guess I'm a freak). Am waiting for my first mishap with my Tele and I just know I'll have a stroke if I chip it or something, but at the same time I know it's bound to happen sooner or later!

I call them "battle scars" (it is your "axe" after all.) Or beauty marks, hickeys, or tattoos!

All my Strats have had their share. You'll grow to love them - and love that they're there. It makes your instrument "your" instrument - kind of like microchipping your dog.

ahh yes. The first ding.
I got one on my headstock as well.
I was playing standing up, in my room. and once i was finished when i lifted the strap over my head to get it off. I bashed the headstock of my beloved strat into my ceiling fan. =/

It only left a small chip, but the fan... didn't fare too well.

Oh well, after that first ding i got many more, i tend to look at them more as character marks. each one tells a story.

And it adds. "natural" relicing, the only relicing i believe in.

Well. grats on your first ding.

Wow thanks guys! It makes me feel a lot better. Especially after congratulating me. LOL The first one is the hardest to get over. I guess the thing that's bothering me the most is that I didn't do it. Believe it or not, it was my guitar instructor. He had a look at it and as he went to put it on his lap to play it, he swung the guitar towards him and the headstock hit his heavy duty music stand. Man that hurt me big time ): LOL especially because I wasn't the one that did it. It didn't even phase my instructor. I guess he must have done it thousands of times and it's bound to happen more.

I have a Sunburst Eric Johnson that I took a chunk out of the very first day I brought it home... it doesn't hurt the sound any... (just my soul a little).

You should have gotten up and demanded he replace your guitar! And of course keep that one due to your emotional attachment to it. :D

Mine's just about a year old and I got a minor one on the bottom of it, I though it was kinda cool, then I got a bigger one a couple days later and wasn't so happy. I'm glad they're not visible though.

The headstocks on all my guitars have dings in them. For some reason I always forget where the headstock is and bang it on something. Once my friend let me play her guitar and I had it in my hands for like a minute and BANG! I knocked the headstock against the wall. Thank goodness it didn't leave a mark. That's the last time I walk around with one of my friend's guitars.

Yeah I actualy would be really pissed off h a ha, I never got a ding on a guitar I owned, never dropped a guitar, never knocked it up against a wall or anything h ah a not because I am paranoid about it but just because I haven't , I like signs of wear like light pick scratches and stuff .... those are inevitable I actually installed schaller strap locks on most of my guitars so I know I will never drop them :)

First ding?

Well, it is your guitar for sure now.

Congrats!

All mine have some sort of ding in them.

It adds character.
