My son has been playing my Gibson LP Studio for quite some time,
I like the LP, great guitar. He really would like another option opposed to
the humbuckers, most of his friends have single coil pickup guitars
that scream cleaner than the lp. My HH is no help to him - duh?
I am considering the 57 Hot Rod. Even though its a little pricey,
definitly can see this kid at 40 still playing it. (& it would be his :D , not ours)
available in Candy Apple Red. (his favorite color)
Played one in guitarcenter through a Crate Palomino (42)
Impressed, to say the least. It had a very fast neck & just screamed!

Looking for any negative info on that axe if it exists.
Otherwise, he will be a very happy young man on his b-day.

i don't know to much bad to say about that guitar... its a great instrument that should suit him well and withstand the test of time.... if you liked it as well, i say you go for it, should be a worthwhile purchase

......though the '57 has a DiMarzio bladed humbucker in the bridge position. Not a single coil............

True, but the S type brightens the lower tones which really makes
it differ tremendiously from a standard.
(standard refering to like a Black Cobra)

thanks for the input.

I played the hotrod '57 over at Wild West, and also watched/listened to another guy sample it. Great sounding guitar. The Dimarzio in the bridge is not heavy sounding at all. Possibly this pickup is not as sharp and clear as the single-coil bridge pick up in my Highway One now that it's set up with 5 springs in the trem, but I can't say that for sure because I never played them back-to-back. My reaction to the Dimarzio bridge pickup was that it sounded good, but I think possibly without the kind of crystalline clarity from a bridge single coil. You still get the S sound with the Hot rod though because it's got the single coil noiseless in the neck and middle.

The looks will stop your son in his tracks. I like the Vintage look with the vintage tremolo and that's one thing I liked about my Highway One (in addition to the price) but over and above that something about that Hotrod '57 makes it a magnificent guitar. That candy apple paint job is unreal, and matched up with the rest of how they did it and the Dimarzio tucked into the bridge - it's beautiful. I think it had locking tuners and a roller nut? You've got a lucky kid.

Thanks for your positive responce!

My son has alot to put up with (his dad)
So every once-in-a-blue-moon he get a good b-day gift.
I kinda fibbed on the no single coil guitars.
For whatever reason, I just love Epi T-310's
you know, Korean plywood Telecasters copies.
( I already regret even calling them that) , personally I think they play great (I have 3) why? who knows - cheap? oh ya!

The '57 Hot Rod would seem to be a excellent choice for what you describe. The beauty of the Stratocaster is it's adaptability to the given player. Concerns noted in this thread about the pickups, while valid, are not of cencern with the Strat. If one does not like the stock pickups, as good as they are, change them to what suits you best. Overall, the '57 Hot Rod appears to be aimed at the player who wants the best blend of vintage and modern Stratocaster in one very appealing, practical guitar.
