Gotta say, there's some knockout knowledge being splashed around on some of these threads, isn't there? Pretty impressive.

BTW: is it unhelpful to mention that I really like the look of the inside of the cavities on the front of Niki's body? It's almost "archaeology in action"...

Cheers - C

Them layers are like carbon dating eh?

Just trying to choose a scratchplate now, thinking of anodized gold.

Seriously, the hot and cold method is the best for replicating the hair line cracks or checking in the finish.

The method I mentioned earlier is the exact same way that the Custom Shop does it. I have also tested it once or twice and been really happy with the results.

Is that a 0001? Very nice. Im decided thats the way forward.

CWPainter. I got on the hot/cold method and got a minimal result. I dont doubt your method though. I think its not working because the lacquer is still too soft or because theres a bare minimum of the stuff applied. I tried your wood stain tip on the tiny wear patch on the forearm contour. A really realistic result there mate. Thankyou.

Never mind Gilmour or debating whether that really was the first Strat or not. It's just a nice look - go for it! (And I believe you already have the gold hardware to hand, no?)

Yeah and its aged now too.

The food colouring works as a stain if you go 1 part red 2 parts yellow 3 parts cooking oil. I was experementing earlier the cooking oil seems to help it bind to the lacquer, dunno why. It only needs to be on for 2 or 3 minutes before its wiped off. I left it for 5 and had to very lightly sand to get the excess of it off. After a good buffing it seems ok so far.
