Welcome to the forum! If you can post some pictures of the guitar that includes body, neck(front and back), headstock (front and back, close ups) and serial numbers shown I'm sure we can tell you. Maybe the bridge area too. Good luck!

You have to study or have access to all of the information about the characteristics of the genuine items. You have to learn how the counterfeit artists try to get around those things. And it all changes over time. If your guitar has all the attributes it is supposed to have, and none of the things it's not supposed to have, then there is a good possibility that it is genuine. The best counterfeiters are trying to get into the vintage market. They can counterfeit the signatures of the fender shop workers. They can even fake the spray paint shadows around the nail holes under the pickguard. But the small time hustlers are just looking to make a few bucks off the uninformed. Those are the people who would be trying to fake an American Standard. American Standards aren't collectors' items, so at most you can defraud the buyer of a few hundred dollars.

I would look really well at the decal and then compare it to original ones... :)

There are a few 'telltale signs' you can look for, ie the decals, but for the most part you need to see the instrument in question, and have someone who is knowledgeable compare many things to a real one. some fakes are REALLY good, and the signs can be subtle.
