I currently own a 1965 sunburst strat that is in good to excellent condition. I am really dying to get it modified with Torres Blueskaster pickup package, new electronics, etc. How crazy do you think I am? This was my dad's guitar so selling it was never a thought; thus losing value is not something that worries me too much. The question is, would it make more sense to put all these mods into a newer strat or will it sound really good in the 65 "original" model?
Thanks.

I'd just leave it as it is man.
If you really do decide to change it, I'd personally just get a new pickguard and all the new electronics, pickups etc., screw off the old pickguard (with all he stuff attached), put it away in a safe place and put the upgrade in the strat.
Basically I think the way to upgrade your guitar without loosing value is just to change the pickguard (incl. everything that's attached to it), the pickups and the Jack, so if you decide to sell the guitar (you never know, you just might) you could put all the old stuff back on.

I totally agree with doing the pick guard thing. I owned a '77 Strat and sold it to my roomate. He wanted to put different pick ups in it so he just swapped everything out in one shot. You are only really removing a few solder joints: the jack and a ground I believe.
