Hey fendermaniacs, I was wondering Has anybody ever taken a strat neck to get scalloped? is it recommended? I mean I was wondering if it is possible or it is not.... I recently purchased one of the new 2009 standard MIM strats with the new logo and stuff and I have to admit I like it a lot ! I dont know what they did but even the pickups sound good and quiet  I didnt expect that considering I paid 300 bucks for it hehe it looks like the MIMs are getting better ... anyway it has medium jumbo frets and I am used to bigger frets so I was wondering if it is possible to have it transformed to scalloped...... anybody know? :)

you could scallop it yourself, im in the middle of the process of scalloping the neck on one of my knockoff strat necks.

A friend of mine used to work on blackmores guitars. He's scalloped a few not for blackmore though.

Time to get the thumbplanes out Synk. This may help

Last Fall I had the neck on one of my strats scalloped...photo is below.
Found that it improved my ability to play barre chords and is requires a much lighter touch. I am trying to decide whether or not to do it to one of my Tele's, but other projects are in line first.
My opinion is go for it, and pay the $140 to $180 to have it done right.

Advising someone to scallop their own neck is like advising someone to operate on themselves. You've gotta know what you're doing or you will ruin the neck.

It also makes speed playing easier because you loose the resistance of your finger from touching the wood beneath the string. And in the same respect, bending strings feels different as well. Like floating above the wood, I personally like the feel of wood beneath my fingers and decided against scalloped long ago.

seen a programme where Blackmore describes his strat neck , everytime he bend up he'd catch the string above , so modded the neck himself, had it sent for repair sometime later, refretted or something, gets his strat back, the guy who did the repairs must have thought " this neck looks a bit tatty & worn " and proceeds to plane the whole neck flat ....Ooch
