Hi All:

I have an '07 Deluxe Fat Strat (MIM) which I bought new, and which I am really happy with.

However, just recently, I started getting a high-pitch ringing sound emanating from the tremolo cavity. The ringing doesn't always occur, but is very pronounced when I play barre chords on high frets (7th fret of higher - say a B or C# barre chord).

The ringing is inaudible when I'm playing through an amp. However, since I often play without my amp (and I love the sound of this guitar without an amp), the sustaining ringing noise can be quite an annoyance.

Also, I've noticed that the noise disappears when I remove the cavity cover (is something in the whammy mechanism slightly touching the cover?). However, I don't like the idea of playing without the cover.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?, and does anyone have any suggestions on how to eliminate the ringing?

Thanks much in advance! I love the forum & love my Strat!

-Ed

Hi Ed.....well i'm sorry to hear that the interference is annoying you and i'm no expert but from what you describe...the culprit could be the springs itself...

Maybe with the spring cavity covered..strum and touch the cover lightly.Feel if there is any vibrations or ringing that is touching the cover which is causing it...

I don't have this problem with my strat, but my Les Paul has a tremolo that did this.
I just happened to have a sheet of this stuff called Sorbothane I got from Edmund optics, so I cut off two cubes of it and stuffed it into the end of the springs. It fixed it like magic.
