I'll be checking out a couple of MIA strats this weekend via craigslist and kinda worried about getting fooled with a copy, Is there anything I should be looking for ?

I already have 2 MIM strats , I just don't know what obvious signs I should look for, Thanks Adam..

It very dependant on what the guitar is claiming to be. Obviously a 54-57/58 has 8 hole pick guard and maple board that should have a certain amount of wear. If its rosewood with a black logo its not a 50's strat. The best way to suss em out is to look at loads of detailed pictures from lots of sources of the guitar that your prospective buy is claiming to be.

I worry about the same thing whenever I see something on eBay or Craigslist.

Here's a really good article on the subject: http://aceguitarshop.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=6&Itemid=31

If you get hold of the guitar's serial number, you can check it out at http://www.fender.com/support/product_dating.php

Finally, if you have the photos, post them here. Some of the folks on this forum are very adept at spotting bogus Fenders. They might be able to save you from being ripped off.

Good luck! 8)
