Guitar world (April 2009 issue) has an article about the Charvel San Dimas 12H. The article states that not only are they Fender owned and American made, they use factory necks. This thing looks like a real Hot Rod! Does anyone have any experience with Charvel guitars? I love to hear your comments, good or bad, I’m seriously thinking about buying one.

Nice guitar and the last one I play was a San Dimas One it had a compound radius neck that was 12"-16" and yes Fender does own them but I don't no any fender that comes with a compund neck. It felt Custom shop to me and for a grand.

Sorry cvilleira, I misread the article, it said, “Of course, these would not be true Charvel guitars if they didn’t have the Strat headstock, so through a special agreement, Fender is allowing Charvel to replicate the design.”

They are truly awesome guitars!

I would take one of those over a Les Paul any day.. Looks like a Fender, plays like a Fender and rips like nothing else!

For a great strat you cant beat Charvel. I've never played one that was made under FMIC ownership of the brand but the old ones were good enough. Atleast rivaling fender customshop pieces.
FMIC's current business ethos is to buy small talented companies that offer something different and let them run themselves with FMIC's backing. so very little changes with the product. I'm pretty sure we'll see groove tubes re-emerging in a year or two, hopefully without the duff's that they were prone to in their latter days.
FMIC certainly haven't done Gretsch or Jackson any harm, they just have better marketing now. Making them stronger companies in their own right.

Wayne Charvel started out making replacement parts for fender guitars. He sold to Grover Jackson shortly after their business partnership. Wayne went on to work for Gibson in the 90's, overseeing their 'WAYNE' guitars, as Grover Jackson owned the Charvel name.

Chet, Redmax's talents speak for themselves. Look at that cakepan  . Obviously another talented individual that doesnt ship to the UK :D .
Where is he lately? Is he back on active duty (manouvers as we say in the Uk)?

Wish him the best from me.

Yeah, he is quite talented.

He has been extremely busy at work.

I was at my local shop, and they had one of those 1-2H shown under the previous colors part.(The Candy Tangerine,) and it was like a puppy staring out of a cage at the pound. It played really nice, but I couldn't really get a good check on it, as it seems school let out and the place was full of kids playing really loud, and really bad. (those were the days, it seems like so long sine i was one of those kids.)

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all the positive feedback regarding the Charvel guitars.

I started out trying to find a new guitar for my birthday this year (March). I don’t know if this happens to other people, but, after spending hours at the shops playing Stratocasters and San Dimas guitars…I picked up a Gretsch out of curiosity, and fell in love.

Last week I brought home a new Gretsch G6128TVP Power Jet. Very different from my Stratocaster, but just as much fun!

Thanks again for your help.

Yee

Congratrs on a fine guitar. Nice of you to check back in and let us know, it's been a while since we saw this thread. Now you just need to post a couple pictures!!

I do.

I used to own a late 80's Charvell Charvette. It was pre-Fender though. It was a smoking hot guitar (too bad my wife lost it in a pawn shop while I was away), but Jackson/Charvell has entered the Fender fold and are one big happy family now. There are people that will look down on them and say "you should have gotten a Jackson". Who cares. These are the same people that say if you have a Squire you have crap.

If you do decide to buy one, please post pics, love to see it. I have looked at their web-site, they look like they have come a long way since the Eighties (more options).

Cvilleira sent me the link to Charvel last week when I posted how come Fender does not make any good humbucking guitars. Well I know these are not Fenders but boy do they sound good and look good. Theres that guitar world clip on the site where he plays all 3 models and each one just kicks $@!.I am deffinetly going to have to pick one up especially that tangerine with the charvel black lettering looks smoking. The turn off and I am going to point this directly at Fender as I checked out old Charvels is that the guitar comes with a gig bag. I hate a new guitar that comes with a gig bag,it is like saying the guitar is not good enough to come with a case. Well if you are spending over a Grand it should come with a case and even the old cheap Charvels I see on ebay came with a case. So what did Fender put them on a budget when they took over.Even nice Fender models that I see that are mid priced I am shocked to see come with a gig bag. Fender you got a nice price hike so stop being CHEAP and stop this gig bag nonsense it does not have to be a tweed case but every guitar should come with a case is it just me or are there people who feel different about this.
